# Introduction

You may sometimes need to take time off work in circumstances where it would not be possible or appropriate to book a normal holiday. This policy explains the different types of leave available, what they can be used for and how you should request them. If you have any questions, please ask a member of the People Circle.

# Our policy

Agile Collective recognises that work and home life are rarely two discrete entities and that sometimes you may need some additional support to help you to balance your different responsibilities. We will always treat requests for leave for personal reasons with respect and compassion and although we may not always be able to agree to them, we’ll always discuss this with you and try to come to a resolution that works for both you and the company.

# Special leave

If you are a parent or carer you may take up to 1 weeks worth paid leave per year (pro-rata) to deal with emergencies relating to a dependent (such as an unexpected breakdown in care arrangements or because your child or other dependent has become ill). Emergency leave isn’t intended for situations where you could reasonably have made alternative arrangements, for example, you wouldn’t usually get paid leave to attend the previously arranged hospital appointment of a friend, relative or dependent.

In the event of you being a single parent (or other similar circumstances) this could be increased to 2 weeks on agreement by the members.

During the COVID-19 situation we will continue to provide an additional 3 weeks worth of paid leave a year (pro-rata), to be logged under 'Special leave’. This will be reviewed 1st January 2022.

If you have a domestic emergency, for example a fire or a flood, you will be able to take a reasonable amount of unpaid time off to make immediate arrangements.

# Bereavement leave

All employees will be granted bereavement leave. Whether or not this leave is paid or unpaid will be at our discretion and will depend on the circumstances but we’ll always treat requests with understanding and compassion.

# Time off for public duties

If you are called up for jury service or have additional responsibilities through a public duty (for example you are a magistrate or a school governor) you can take a reasonable amount of unpaid time off to fulfil those duties. What is considered reasonable will depend on the circumstances but we’ll always discuss this openly with you.

# The procedure to follow

If you need to take some unexpected time off due to personal circumstances, or need time to complete a public duty, please speak with a member of the People Circle as soon as possible.

If you are called up for jury service please let a member of the People Circle know and show them the court summons as soon as possible. In some circumstances, we may ask you to apply to defer your jury service but only if we have a genuine business reason to ask this.
